Play was suspended during the final round of the Players Championship due to lightning not long after Rory McIlroy took the lead at 12-under-par.
McIlroy grabbed the lead at TPC Sawgrass having picked up four shots trough his first 11 holes with J.J. Spaun one shot behind McIlroy. Play was suspended at 1:15pm local (4:15am AEDT). Heavy rain and lightning lashed Ponte Vedra Beach and was set to continue for several hours.
The PGA Tour had brought forward the final round starting times, with three-ball groups starting from the first and 10th holes. If the final round is forced into a Monday finish, the forecast predicts clear skies but winds up to 40km/h.
