Scottie Scheffler wasn’t happy with his approach play in round one at Shinnecock Hills and he went straight to the range to fix it. Here’s what he and coach Randy Smith were working on and why it could be the key to his US Open campaign.
Hitting the ball low is a skill all golfers need to excel in the wind, as a lower-flighted shot is less impacted by the wind. The issue is many players try to hit the ball low the wrong way.
We’re revisiting this range session to uncover what we can learn from how Scheffler practises. We can study his golf swing all we want, but that swing was created here, on the range, with hours of practice alongside swing coach Randy Smith.
American Scottie Scheffler won the Players Championship, the PGA Tour’s flagship tournament, for the first time at TPC Sawgrass on Sunday which also marked his sixth career victory.
With a sixth victory in the past 13 months, Scheffler joins Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only men to hold the Masters and Players titles at the same time.
