The world’s best golfers will certainly find the water a few times this week at TPC Sawgrass’ 17th hole. But if you really want to see some carnage on the famed island par 3, you should get out there on Wednesday.

That’s because the caddies get a crack at the 17th on the eve of the Players Championship as part of a nearest-the-pin contest that raises money in honour of the late Bruce Edwards. And as you can imagine, a step down in skill level combined with it being their only swing of the day produces a lot of splashes.

Even an accomplished golfer like Duane Bock, who won the 1992 North & South Amateur Championship at Pinehurst, struggles. And his boss, Kevin Kisner, reminded him – and everyone else – of that fact on Wednesday by sharing the following video.

Kisner assured Bock he has enough club and pumps him up as he steps to the tee. But then things go bad. Quickly. Have a look – and listen:

We love how Kisner instantly knows the golf ball’s fate. “God, it’s not enough. It’s not enough. Every. Year.” The caption – Duane Bock sending her in there one more time! – also notes this seems to be a recurring theme.

Then ‘Kis’ adds a final dagger as a dejected Bock walks away: “Can’t get an 8-iron 117 yards, that man right there.”

Ouch. Poor guy. Of course, Bock will trade a little public humiliation for his boss staying dry on the hole the rest of the week and earning a fat cheque come Sunday.
