Cameron Smith has delighted a Memphis fan by buying him a new iPhone after accidentally hitting the spectator’s hand with an errant drive at last week’s FedEx St Jude Championship.

Smith’s tee shot on the par-4 seventh hole hit golf fan Blake Krassenstein on the thumb and smashed his phone. The world No.2 Smith walked over, signed a glove for Krassenstein and took down his mobile number to follow up after the round.

“Walked over shook my hand, signed his glove for me, wrote down my cell # (mobile phone number) in his yardage book and ordered me a new phone. Unreal moment,” Krassenstein wrote in a post on Twitter.

Smith later text messaged the fan, “Ok great mate. Phone is ordered. I’ve put your phone number down so should get updates and tracking. I’m glad you’re enjoying the tournament. I’ll see you out there tomorrow.”

The newly crowned Open Championship winner Smith took care of the Krassenstein quickly, buying him a new iPhone and having it express delivered.

According to Krassenstein, the new phone was even better than the one that was smashed:
