After flirting with a historic round on Friday at the Players, it was going to be interesting to see how Webb Simpson backed it up on Saturday, especially with some of the game’s biggest names making a move. Would the pressure get to him? Would TPC Sawgrass get its payback? None of the above.

Simpson immediately built on his five-shot lead with a birdie on his opening hole, then added another at the par-4 fourth to get to 17-under for the tournament. When he finally flinched and made a bogey at the par-3 eighth, he promptly got that shot back with a birdie at the par-5 ninth. Following a par at 10, Simpson’s second shot found a bunker behind the green at the par-5 11th, leaving him a 30-yard bunker shot to a front hole location. Let’s see how he did:

The eagle 3 extended Simpson’s already massive lead to eight shots. He simply can do no wrong. Somehow, this may have been even more impressive than his ridiculous putt at No.15 on Friday:

Just when things were getting semi-interesting, Simpson all but ends the tournament. Might just be his week.
