Starting now, you can divide the 27-year history of Kapalua hosting a PGA Tour event into two distinct eras: The pre-albatross era, which is everything before Sunday, and the post-albatross era, which is everything after Taylor Pendrith’s remarkable 2 on the 520-yard par-5 fifth.
The bad news is that NBC’s film crew wasn’t fully set up when he came to No. 5, but the good news is they did have a camera running. It’s not great quality, but it’s something, so check it out:
Pendrith cut the corner on his 279-yard drive, leaving an approach of 203 yards, and as you see, he two-hopped into the flagstick, and from there into the hole.
He finished T-13 at 22-under.
A reporter asked Pendrith after his round, “How many albatrosses have you had in your life, in your career?“
“That’s actually number eight. Which is weird. I’ve got three hole-in-ones and that’s number eight albatross. First one in a tournament. It was pretty cool.”
