It’s been a quiet US Open so far, between Wyndham Clark’s big lead, later-than-normal third-round tee-times and the constant Long Island traffic. But this weekend, a Rory McIlroy retort to a Shinneock Hills heckler got the crowd fired up. At least for a moment.

As McIlroy teed off in the third round, a fan began to shriek, “Bunker! Get in the bunker!” while filming himself, presumably in an attempt to go viral. After waiting for Maverick McNealy’s tee shot, McIlroy responded by… well, let’s just show you.

McIlroy clearly stares down the fan, and then makes a motion to indicate a protruding belly. We can’t say for sure what McIlroy intended by the gesture, but we can all fill in the blank.

Allegedly, this “fan” was a menace for most of the third day, with a commenter adding, “Holy s–t this guy!!! You could hear him screaming at the end of Clark’s round yesterday.” And it must’ve been clear because even Clark commented on how low the energy felt to end his third round.

It doesn’t seem like things have been much better for McIlroy on the final day, either. On just the third hole of the day, the Northern Irishman was heard cursing at himself for a botched approach shot. “Just go home, Rory. F–king hell!” he said.

That’s now two people McIlroy has wanted to send home.
