Phil Mickelson has long been a master of spin, with his wedges and his words. But Saturday at the US Open, he flubbed the latter big time with a preposterous explanation for his rules indiscretion.
There won’t be any 63s in this US Open. The winning score will NOT be 16-under par. Which, whether they admit it or not, is a relief to officials at the USGA.
Tiger is back playing, which sure beats the hell out of where he was a year ago this week – on the couch and watching on television as Brooks Koepka obliterated Erin Hills.

Normally Johnson, who is not superstitious, will use any of the 1-4 numbers in the dozen. At this year’s US Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, however, Johnson will be teeing it up with number 70 Pro V1x, prompting the question, why?
These guys aren’t among the favourites this week at Shinnecock Hills – surprisingly in some cases – but under the right circumstances they could all find themselves in contention come Sunday. Looking to round out your US Open fantasy lineup? You could do worse than pick from among these tour pros.
