The first-tee starter botching Rickie Fowler’s name pretty much sums up how things are going for Rickie right now

On Friday at Bay Hill, Rickie Fowler grinded his way to a two-under 70, just barely sneaking inside the cut line. Three birdies on his final six holes showed that he’s still got plenty of fight, even if his game continues to be a work in progress.

Unfortunately, he took another step back Saturday morning, already finishing with a four-over 76 to fall from the back of the pack to the very bottom of the pack. Of the 73 players who made the cut, he was tied for dead last at six-over.

It was a day that was doomed from the start for Fowler, whose prolonged slump has been well-documented (Fowler is in serioius danger of missing the Masters). On the first tee, he received quite the omen when the starter not only botched the pronunciation of his last name, which seems impossible to do, but botched the pronunciation of his hometown of Murrieta, California. Never mind the fact that “Fowler” seems very difficult to screw up. How about the fact that it’s RICKIE FOWLER, arguably the most recognisable player on the PGA Tour. How is the first-tee starter at the Arnold Palmer Invitational screwing up Rickie Fowler’s name? Crazytown.
