From Rory McIlroy to Jon Rahm, 11 members of the European Ryder Cup team were at the DP World Tour’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. But they were all upstaged by Alex Noren, who will be one of their five vice-captains at Bethpage next week.
Alex Noren captured the British Masters, defeating Kiwi Kazuma Kobori by a shot, but it was the Dane’s qualification for next month’s Ryder Cup that captured just as much attention.
The result of a soft golf course was a first-round scoring average of 69.82 and a field that was a combined 86-under par. Half the holes played under par for the day, and the field averaged four birdies per round.
