Sorrento began as something of a ‘holiday’ course for members of the esteemed Melbourne clubs. Beautifully short and rich on strategy, it is an excellent complement to the long, demanding courses of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. The layout tempts and teases golfers frequently and is one of those magnificent cerebral courses that often take a few laps to decipher. A collection of uphill and downhill shots creates part of the mystery, and then there’s the five par 3s, which are each excellent in different ways. Recent course upgrade work has Sorrento firmly in the Mornington golf spotlight again, while it remains a member of an elite club: one of just 22 courses in Australia to make our Top 100 ranking every time since the inaugural list in 1986.
