The wind has been whipping all week at Shinnecock, but on Sunday something else was blowing in the New York breeze. Specifically, Sahith Theegala’s club, which went flying out of the 28-year-old’s hands after a wild hack out of the fescue at the fourth hole. Heads up!
That was wild!

Didn’t Joaquin Niemann get penalised two strokes for this very thing?? Just kidding. Theegala’s case of the butterfingers was clearly unintentional and the lie was so heinous, it’s honestly a miracle he chopped it out at all. The fescue was so thick and Theegala’s ball had settled in it so deeply, that he somehow unearthed another lost ball buried deep beneath his own. Classic US Open stuff.
Theegala went on to double-bogey the par-4, dropping him to two-over for the championship and out of contention once and for all. But hey, on the bright side, at least no one got decapitated.
