The competitive spirit the Ryder Cup inspires biennially can be felt well ahead of the Opening Ceremony, which will be held this year on Europe’s side of the Atlantic, at the swanky Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy on September 21. This year, Team USA, captained by Zach Johnson, will once again be decked in sophisticated, patriotic Ralph Lauren apparel. The pieces are high-quality and luxe (especially that dreamy RLX cashmere hoodie), but the price point hardly holds a flame to the luxurious, princely, Loro Piana swag, which retails in the thousands, that will outfit Luke Donald’s European team.

Loro Piana is known for its fine Italian textiles, blending exquisite, natural fibers like cashmere, wool, and linen. The design house, or maison, as it is known, first outfitted the team in 2016, and already is contracted to return for the 2025 faceoff. This year, once again, includes LP’s signature color-blocked sweaters and polos, balancing a soft white with bold maroon (or, as LP calls it, “kummel”) and timeless navy accents. You can also expect to see splashes of color this year, with a lagoon teal colorway making a strong entrance to the capsule’s swatch scheme. In one uniform polo, a canary yellow offsets the airy teal for a dramatic on-course look. We’re also huge fans of the sunflower yellow polos with navy trimming along the collar—all nods to the team’s traditional color scheme of blue, white, and yellow.

Each look features the embroidered 2023 Ryder Cup emblem, much like Ralph Lauren’s designs for the U.S. Team, and were, for the first time, crafted using 3D technology to track and simulate players’ movements during the swing to craft pieces with the most ease of movement, support, durability, and, of course, style that cuts an elegant figure throughout the entire swing. The brand refers to its collaboration with the Ryder Cup as a kind of “open-air laboratory,” a space where the brand can take its finest, most innovative designs to the real world and see how they endure through the curves and terrains of the course.

“Since our partnership began at the Ryder Cup in 2016, the quality of Loro Piana’s fabrics coupled with their specialist design and production knowledge have made them the ideal fit for Team Europe, ensuring that the players look and feel the part both on and off the course,” Guy Kinnings, Director of the Ryder Cup, said in a press release. “I am delighted that we are working with a symbol of Italian excellence for the first ever Ryder Cup in Italy.”

For those of us without tickets to the hottest team event in golf, we’re excited to see each continent’s carefully designed capsule against the greens. If the bold, signature designs are any indication, it’s going to be another showdown to remember.
