Quick multiple-choice question for you:

What do you get for winning the Masters?

A: A gold medal

B: A green jacket

C: You name engraved on the permanent Masters Trophy (a depiction of the Augusta National clubhouse)

D: A replica of the Masters Trophy

E: Spot in the Champions locker room

F: A lifetime exemption into the Masters

G: All of the above

If you said G, well, congrats on your Masters trivia. Indeed, the spoils of victory add up for winning at Augusta National, and we didn’t even include the intangible prize of being able to say you’re a Masters champion for the rest of your life. Or one other financial benefit that comes with a victory:

An impressive first-place prize money payout.

As we noted a year ago, it says something about what it means to compete in the Masters that players aren’t thinking twice about the fact they have no idea what the prize money payouts are this week at Augusta National before teeing off in the opening round. Usually how the process works is the club waits until after a 36-hole cut has been made before announcing anything official.

Mind you, there is a little uncertainty as to what the prize money payout will be when it is formally announced. A year ago, Masters officials increased the overall purse to $20 million, a $5 million jump from 2022 and a little less than $9 million more than in 2021. That overall number now equals the $20 million purses offered in the PGA Tour’s signature events as well as the $20 million paydays being played for individually on the LIV Golf circuit.

Currently, the top paying men’s major championship is the U.S. Open, with the USGA paying $21.5 million in prize money during last year’s championship at Pinehurst. The PGA Championship bumped up its purse last year at Valhalla to $18.5 million and the Open Championship paid $17 million at Royal Troon in 2024. All the majors are currently dwarfed by the Players Championship, which paid out $25 million in March with winner Rory McIlroy earning $4.5 million.

Below is the prize money payouts for everybody who made the cut in 2024 at Augusta National. We’ll update this with 2025 numbers when the club officially releases them, and then come back shortly after the end of the event on Sunday and we’ll update the list with individual names and paydays.
