Just when you thought the golf world was ready to come back together, Wyndham Clark threw a (very random) wrench into the mix at the end of his post-round presser on Thursday at Augusta National.
Clark, the reigning US Open winner who is playing in his very first Masters, opened with a one-over 73 in blustery conditions. That puts him eight shots back of solo leader Bryson DeChambeau, who, you may have heard, plays on the LIV Golf Tour.
"Yeah, we've got 54 holes. In LIV Golf they only play 54, so I like my chances."

With three rounds left, an eight-shot deficit is rather large but not insurmountable. Clark shared that sentiment Thursday afternoon when asked if a comeback was still doable. And, somehow, he managed to throw a dagger at LIV in the process.
“Yeah, we’ve got 54 holes,” Clark said. “In LIV Golf they only play 54, so I like my chances.”
Shots fired.
“We’ve got a lot of golf left,” he added. “As you can see, someone shot 7-under. I could do that tomorrow.”

Surely, the social media trolls will love that one, especially when you remember that Clark won a signature event on the PGA Tour at Pebble Beach that was shortened to 54 holes due to weather. And then there’s the fact that Clark openly admitted that he met with LIV Golf but “ultimately declined” the Saudi-backed tour’s offer.
“I still have a lot of things left in the tank on the PGA Tour and I wanted to chase records,” Clark said in February. “I wanted to chase world ranking. My dream is to try to be one of the top players in the world, if not the top player. I just grew up always imagining winning PGA Tour events. So ultimately, I chose my legacy over LIV…that’s really what it came down to.”
