On Sunday, Jordan Spieth outlasted Charley Hoffman to win the Valero Texas Open, his first PGA Tour title in nearly four years. The victory capped a recent return to form for the three-time Major champ, who, after dropping out of the world top 50 last spring, has clawed his way back into contention for a second green jacket this week.
In other words, while you may not necessarily be betting on Spieth this week at the Masters, you would be dumb to bet against him. Just ask Eddie Pepperell, who fired up the Twitter machine on Monday morning to make the following wager:
If Spieth doesn’t win at Augusta this week, I’ll play a tournament round next year topless.

We’re not sure if this means Pepperell thinks Spieth has no chance this week or just REALLY wants to play a round with his shirt off. We’re guessing the latter, especially given his reverse-Bryson transformation over the past 12 months. Either way, this is a bold move from Pepperell given the kind of form Spieth has enjoyed in 2021, finishing T4 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, T3 at the (am-less) AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and T4 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational before finally breaking through on Sunday.

As for the likelihood that the PGA and/or European Tour would let Pepperell out there without his top on, well, let’s just say it’s even more remote than Spieth winning back-to-back weeks after 83 consecutive blanks. It took them almost a century to allow shorts during a practice round, Eddie. Hoodies nearly caused a civil war. Unless you want to get tased and wake up with a bag over your head at a tour blacksite, we suggest you keep your shirt on . . . no matter what Jordan does.
