Fight the freeze for a smoother stroke.

There are times when it feels like the closer we get to the hole, the longer we stand over the ball. Nowhere is that more evident than inside 10 feet on the green. These are putts we expect to make, and that expectation can lead to tension prior to taking the putter back.

After you have identified your intended line, take a couple of purposeful practice strokes, matching the same tempo back and through and holding the finish. Then it’s a matter of eyes in, clubhead in, feet in and go.

It is no coincidence that the best putters spend very little time over the ball before pulling the trigger. If you can incorporate that into your putting routine, you will instantly start to putt better.
