Play closer to home with these easy escapes from your nearest capital city.
In Australia, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to golf. Some of the country’s most rewarding rounds are sitting just outside the city limits, often only an hour or so from your nearest capital.
These are the kinds of places you can leave home after breakfast, play 18 holes and still be back in time for dinner – or stay the night and stretch it into a proper golf escape.
From the Sunshine Coast’s green corridors to the exposed edges of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, Adelaide’s dunelands and the New South Wales South Coast’s rolling coastal edges, each destination offers a different version of escape, without the need for long-haul travel.

SUNSHINE COAST, QLD
Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort
Just 10 minutes from Noosa Heads and about 90 minutes from Brisbane, Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort is one of those rare places that manages to feel both convenient and completely removed at the same time.
The par-72 layout stretches across 6,180 metres, with fairways that follow the natural undulation of the land. Water is a constant presence, coming into play across lakes and creeks that weave through multiple holes.
Everything sits within one precinct – accommodation, spa, dining and clubhouse – making it equally suited to a quick round or a full weekend stay. Practice facilities include a driving range and short-game areas.

MORNINGTON PENINSULA, VIC
An easy drive from Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula is one of Australia’s most concentrated golf regions, a place where sand-based designs, coastal exposure and natural terrain do most of the shaping.
What sets it apart is variety and proximity. Within a relatively small area, you can move from exposed championship layouts to sheltered parkland courses, all within the
same day.
Moonah Links
Moonah Links was purpose-built as a golf precinct and remains one of Australia’s key tournament layouts. The Open course stretches beyond 6,700 metres and features wide corridors, large greens and constant exposure to the elements. It rewards positioning, patience and planning over power. On-site accommodation and practice facilities make it a true stay-and-play destination within easy reach of the city.
Flinders Golf Club
Set above Bass Strait, Flinders Golf Club is one of Victoria’s most exposed coastal courses. The par-70 layout plays roughly 5,600 metres, but wind and elevation changes define the round more than distance. No two days play the same, with conditions constantly reshaping strategy. Despite its remote feel, it remains an easy drive from Melbourne and delivers a genuine sense of escape.
Rosebud Country Club
Set slightly inland, Rosebud Country Club offers a more sheltered version of Mornington Peninsula golf. With two courses and Fairways Resort on-site, it’s one of the region’s easiest stay-and-play options. The terrain is largely flat, treelined and far less exposed than nearby coastal courses. It provides consistency in a region often defined by change, ideal for relaxed rounds or group trips and is the annual host of the Webex Players Series Victoria.

ADELAIDE, SA
Glenelg Golf Club
Just minutes from Adelaide’s CBD, Glenelg Golf Club is one of the city’s most accessible golf escapes. Built on sand-based terrain, the renovated par-71 course now spans 6,234 metres. Dune formations and native vegetation shape firm, fast conditions that reward creativity and smart positioning.
The course frequently encourages a ground-based strategy, with multiple lines of play available depending on your approach. Recent works under the Course Enhancement Plan focused on upgrading irrigation, conditioning and sustainability, while preserving the natural character of the layout.

SOUTH COAST, NSW
Mollymook Golf Club
A few hours south of Sydney, Mollymook blends coastal calm with inland variety.
The club offers two courses: Hilltop and Beachside. Hilltop is the 18-hole championship course, a par-72 layout of 6,225 metres, featuring rolling terrain, elevation changes and shifting coastal views. Beachside is a nine-hole, par-32 course closer to the ocean, offering a shorter, more relaxed round with constant sea influence. Together, they create a flexible destination that works for both full golf weekends and quick coastal escapes.

GOLF COAST, WA
You can venture north or south from Perth and find great golf, but for volume and quality, south wins. Just an hour south of the Swan River are courses the calibre of Meadow Springs, The Cut, Secret Harbour and the recently revamped Links Kennedy Bay.
That quartet alone represents a solid golf itinerary, yet if you continue further south, you’ll run into more options. Bunbury, Capel, Busselton, Dunsborough Lakes and even the charming Margaret River layout add considerable might to the golf scene in the bottom-left corner of the country.
