In the wise words of the late Yankee legend Yogi Berra, “it’s getting late, early.” Meaning, we’ve only just started July but there are only five weeks remaining until the start of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
The tour is at TPC Deere Run this week for its annual stop at the John Deere Classic, which is big for some of those lower in standing to make up ground with little time remaining in the regular season. The field is playing for $8.4 million with the winner taking home $1.512 million.
Ben Griffin (17) is the only top-20 ranked player in the world competing. Sungjae Im (25) is next on the list. Davis Thompson is the defending champion and is looking to be the first repeat winner of this event since Steve Stricker from 2009-11.

Rickie Fowler is playing here for the first time since 2010, the only time that he’s ever played at Deere Run. Last week’s winner Aldrich Potgieter is playing again, hoping to keep the same form that saw him win in Detroit on the fifth playoff hole.
Jason Day (28), J.T. Poston (43), Denny McCarthy (45) and Lucas Glover (46) are the other top-50 ranked players participating.
Up next: the Genesis Scottish Open and ISCO Championship are both held next week, followed by the Open Championship at Royal Portrush. The Barracuda Championship, 3M Open and Wyndham Championship then close out the regular season.
Here’s the rundown of what each player will earn who makes the cut. Check back here Sunday after play is complete for updates.
