The prize money payout at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship is modest for a PGA Tour event these days: $1.242 million to the winner from an overall purse of $6.9 million. But with its penultimate spot on the tour schedule, the tournament comes with its own sense of urgency. The push for tour pros to finish inside the top 125 of the FedEx Cup points standings has all but one player between 118th to 135th who hasn’t already locked up a tour card for 2025 in the field this week at Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda.
Similarly, with this second-to-last chance to make your way between Nos. 51-60 on the FedEx Cup points list and earn spots into two early 2025 signature events, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Genesis Invitational, seven players currently among that group— Mackenzie Hughes, Maverick McNealy, Seamus Power, Patrick Rodgers, Nick Taylor, Ben Griffin and Kevin Yu—are competing to hold down their spots.
So maybe FedEx Cup points are as valuable as dollars this week. The event is, however, one of just three out of the eight fall events that has seen an increase in the prize money payout, bumped up by $400,000.
