Charlie Woods will attempt to qualify for his first PGA Tour event – and he won’t have to travel far to do it.
The PGA Tour announced the son of 15-time major champion Tiger Woods will compete in today’s pre-qualifier for the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. The pre-qualifier will take place at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, near where Woods lives in Jupiter, Florida.

The younger Woods is playing in one of four pre-qualifiers for the event. Approximately 25 players and ties will advance to Monday’s qualifier. There, four spots will be available into the PGA Tour event that runs from February 29 to March 3 at PGA National’s Champion course in Palm Beach Gardens.
Golf fans have become familiar with Charlie’s game in the past four years as he’s teamed up with Tiger at the PNC Championship. Charlie, a freshman at the Benjamin School, also helped lead his high school team to a state title in November.

It’s interesting to note that Charlie, who turned 15 earlier this month, has never played in an AJGA event. He has competed in other junior events, including the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship in the northern autumn when he finished T-17 in the Boys 14-15 division with dad caddieing for him.
Charlie has a 7:39am tee-time today (Florida time) alongside Ruaidhri McGee, and fellow PGA Tour offspring, Olin Browne Jnr.
The Cognizant Classic, previously the Honda Classic, is in its first year under new sponsorship. Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler are among the early commitments. It’s unclear if Tiger Woods plans to play in the event, but perhaps how Charlie fares this week will influence that decision.
