MATT Jones has utilised his local knowledge of The Australian Golf Club to storm into the early second-round lead of the Australian Open.
Jones – a member since he was 15 years old – rattled off four birdies and a bogey in his opening nine to make the turn at 3-under, before coupling a birdie and a bogey on his back nine to sign for a 68 and post the clubhouse lead at 7-under. He is two shots ahead of first-round leader Lincoln Tighe.
“If not the last group I’ll be in the second last group, in my opinion,” Jones said.
An unbelievable turnaround has seen Nicolas Colsaerts move from 2-over to 3-under today with a blistering 66. Another big hitter in Todd Sinnott has also been able to cement himself at the top of the leader board carding a tidy 1-under with two holes still to play.
Brett Rankin is another player who has turned his form around overnight. He’s 4-under through 12 holes and has transformed a 2-over into 2-under. Yesterdays hot and blustery conditions a fair explanation for the change in scores.
