IT was the golf prank of the century, but North Korea ain’t laughing.

Brisbane larrikins Morgan Rig and Evan Shay – who became overnight viral internet celebrities after convincing North Korean officials they were members of the Australian golf team – have been asked to apologise to the country on live television.

The 28-year-olds fooled organisers of the six annual north Korea Open to let them compete amongst 85 internationals in a two-day amateur golf tournament in the city of Pyongyang.

Shay and Ruig admit to barely managing a few social games a year and were found out quickly during the tournament when it turned out they couldn’t break 100 for 18 holes.

Back in Queensland and enjoying 15 minutes of hilarious fame, the pair said their travel agent had requested the Aussies head back to North Korea and say sorry. Their response was predictably funny:

“We’ve been told by the travel agent who arranged the trip that North Korea wants us to go back to make an official apology on live TV,” he told the Courier Mail.

“Yeah, no … we won’t be doing that any time soon.”

“Years of hard labour in a North Korean prison doesn’t exactly appeal.”
