WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: In discussing the 2026 Wilson Staff Model golf ball line, the old saying “don’t judge a book by its cover” could hardly be more applicable. The new model looks the same and has the same name as the previous iteration, but multiple layers of its four-piece construction have been updated. Using feedback from tour pros, Wilson revamped its premium line to sound and feel softer without sacrificing velocity.

PRICE & AVAILABILITY: The Staff Model and Staff Model X are available in white and yellow. Each model can also feature TRK360, a 360-degree alignment aid stamped onto the ball. Available across Australia now for $84.95 per dozen.

3 Cool Things

1. A tour ball by tour pros: Though the previous iteration was built for tour players, this one was constructed directly using their feedback. Many felt the Staff Model X was too firm and clicky, especially on short shots and putts, so Wilson made it softer, and managed to do so without losing speed. The result is a ball with a softer core so it spins less on driver shots but makes use of a high-acid ionomer mantle layer to maintain velocity and spin rate on iron and wedge shots, altogether creating a softer sounding and feeling ball.

2. Peeling back the layers: Both four-piece balls are engineered using Wilson’s V-COR performance technology with the goal of generating maximum velocity.

In the Staff Model, that means a softer core, with a compression of 90, targeting a skilled golfer who wants tour-level performance with less spin than a firmer ball. The Staff Model is all about softness, as the inner mantle layer was softened from the previous iteration and a soft 0.025” cast urethane cover give the ball a cushiony feel.

Staff Model X is the firmer of the two options, with about 10 points more compression than its sibling, but is softer than it was in 2024. With a small, mid-compression core, a rigid inner mantle, a high-acid ionomer outer mantle and the soft, ultra-thin cast urethane cover, Wilson was able to maintain high ball speeds while eliminating the clicky sounds and feels of the older version.

3. A built-in training aid: 360-degree alignment aids seem to be all the rage right now, and Wilson won’t miss out on the party with the new Staff Model line. The alignment lines are offered in black and silver to provide visual feedback, but not in a loud, distracting way. They double as a within-the-rules, on-course training aid as the wraparound line instantly indicates a well-struck putt or an off-centre strike.
