The Masters is right around the corner. The pianos are tinkling.
Jim Nantz is sipping some throat-coat tea. It’s a real party out there. On Tuesday, that rager reached a fever pitch when the internet discovered the seemingly innocent photo of Jon Rahm currently being used on the Masters website. Notice anything funny?
That’s right. At first glance, this just looks like one of the big Spaniard’s signature follow throughs, but something’s not quite right. The proportions are a little off. The elbows a little loose. Closer inspection reveals that’s not a driver, or a fairway wood, or even a long iron. I
nstead it’s Rahm’s putter, caught mid-finish after taking a full cut at a ball in anger while on some green somewhere in the vast expanse of time. (Thanks to Rahm’s legendary temper, it’s tough to narrow it down much further than that.)
Needless to say, this is absolutely hilarious. Also needless to say, the Masters web admins had no idea what they were doing. The Masters—and by extension Augusta National—is top-of-its-class in countless areas. Groundskeeping. Gravitas. Concessions prices.
Comedy, however, is not exactly their forte. A sense of humour has long been the cost of doing business at Augusta National. Credit where it’s due, this is funny.
However, the picture was then changed.
