Public golf courses in Australia have been feeling the heat of late but this news should warm the hearts of links lovers in Melbourne’s south-east fringe

Golf Services Management Pty Ltd (GSM) have announced they have entered into a new management agreement with Cardinia Shire Council to reopen and manage the Pakenham Golf Course at Deep Creek Reserve.

Formerly known as Deep Creek Golf Club before it went into voluntary administration in April, Cardinia Shire Council expressed confidence in GSM’s capability to restore the golf course whilst establishing a sustainable business model for the venue.

“We are delighted to be working with Cardinia Shire Council and look forward to the challenge of reopening what we acknowledge to be notable centrepiece and a central hub, for the Cardinia Shire community,” says Ian Denny, managing director of GSM.

“We believe the venue holds immense potential and are excited to introduce a range of initiatives in the coming months that will be valuable additions to the local community as well as to GSM’s extensive existing local customer base.”

Under GSM’s stewardship the golf course will be rebranded as Pakenham Golf Course, a name which pays homage to the venue’s original naming convention. The rebranding affirms the course’s ‘7 day a week public access’ status and dispels any misconceptions that the venue is private in nature.

GSM will now embark on an extensive works program associated with restoring the golf course and driving range to a playable standard after an extended closure period. Golf operations are expected to resume in phases from early December which will include the reopening of the Deep Creek Reserve Eco Centre featuring a retail space, café, bistro, functions rooms as well as shared spaces utilised by various Cardinia Shire community groups.

A comprehensive recruitment drive is now underway to establish a new team for the next chapter of the venue. A range of job opportunities, spanning golf operations, hospitality, and maintenance, are now listed on the newly launched Pakenham Golf Course website at www.pakenhamgolf.com.au/jobs.
