You get all sorts of celebrities dusting off their clubs for tournament pro-ams – movie stars, TV presenters, sporting legends, politicians… the list goes on.

In Queensland, so long a dominate force in rugby league on the back of its star-studded State of Origin team and NRL powerhouse clubs Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys, celebrities don’t come much bigger than Johnathan Thurston.

The retired Origin great and 2015 Cowboys premiership star was one of the headline acts in Wednesday’s Australian PGA Championship pro-am at RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.

The man known as “J.T.” was paired with another member of Australian sporting royalty – 2013 Masters champion Adam Scott – in what must have been a dream pairing for their amateur partners, not to mention the gallery following them.

Thurston is no stranger to playing in front of big crowds, having delivered countless match-winning plays in front of sold-out football stadiums around the world. But this was no football match. This was an opening tee shot, in front of the pin-up boy of Australian golf, in front of a golf audience expecting him to crumble under the pressure of it all.

Check out what happened:

Ha! Never in doubt, J.T. And that laugh was reportedly heard echoing down Cavill Avenue in Surfers Paradise.

Ladies and gents, here’s a man who doesn’t take himself too seriously on the course – a lesson many of us could probably take away from today’s action. OK, and Scotty’s flawless swing, too!
