The Kroger Queen City Championship had one of the best fields of the year, with 21 of 24 tour winners this year and 20 of the top 25 in the world all competing.

So, then, it was little surprise that the result came down to the bitter end with World No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul in contention. But the final conclusion at TPC River’s Bend was an incredible surprise.

Downright shocking.

Aside from being the best player in the world, the 22-year-old from Thailand ranks fourth on tour this year in strokes gained/putting.

With that in mind, it’s even more of a shock that she four-putted the last green to make bogey on the par-5 hole, leaving World No. 8 Charley Hull a two-footer for birdie to win and turn the one-shot deficit into a one-shot victory.

Hull held a one-shot lead heading into the final round in Ohio. She made three birdies on the front nine to seem in control but made two bogeys on the back, including at the par-4 17th hole to hand Thitikul the lead.

“I didn’t really process it,” said Hull. “Like Jeeno played great today. She was very solid. Unfortunate what happened to her on the last hole.

“At the end of the day I just felt like I needed a little bit of luck on my side in the last few years because I don’t feel like it’s ever gone my way and it’s finally got my way for once.

“Every dog has its day.”
