Just two years ago, Jason Day came into the BMW Championship at Conway Farms playing the best golf of his life. He’d already earned four victories on the season, including the US PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, his first Major. He went on to win that season’s third leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs by six strokes, posting a four day total of 22-under 262. It was his fourth win in less than two months.
This week, Day came into the BMW Championship in much different fashion, having finished inside the top-five just once and not registering a victory. But the event is back at Conway Farms, which appears to be the spark the Queenslander needed. After opening with a seven-under 64, Day came out firing again on Friday, making the turn in two-under 33. At the par-5 14th, he got it to four-under on the day when he chipped in for eagle from just off the green. But the best shot of his day, and year, came two holes later at the par-3 17th:

The 173-metre ace got Day to six-under on the round and 13-under for the tournament, where he would finish after making par at the 18th for a six-under 65. That’s back-to-back rounds of 65 or lower for the 10-time US PGA Tour winner. The last time he did that? The 2015 BMW Championship at Conway Farms, when he opened with rounds of 61 and 63. He’s now shot 66 or lower six of his last 10 rounds at the Tom Fazio-designed course.
