Sweden’s Maja Stark claimed her maiden major title at the 2025 US Women’s Open, holding off a world-class leaderboard while Hannah Green posted a career-best result to top the Australian contingent at Erin Hills in Wisconsin.

Green carded rounds of 72, 70, 73 and 72 to finish at one-under-par (287) and secure a share of 12th—tied for her best-ever finish at the US Women’s Open.

“Yeah, I felt like I hit the ball really well,” Green said after her round. “Hit a couple loose shots coming into the back nine. The bogey on 16 and 17 kind of hurt, but I ran it by on the last because I really wanted to make birdie, so I’m just glad that I made par in the end. But overall, solid week.”

Minjee Lee, the 2022 US Women’s Open champion, was well-placed through 54 holes but faded on Sunday with a 77 to finish T-22 at two-over. Kiwi legend Lydia Ko followed closely behind at T-26 (+3) after rounds of 73, 71, 73 and 74.

Green, who hasn’t played a heavy schedule in 2025, said the result has her optimistic heading into the Women’s PGA Championship.

“Yeah, I feel like on some of the days, I got a lot out of the round and then some I didn’t and kind of left things out there, which I mean you always do a major championships, but it’s nice to build on this form,” Green said. “We have have KPMG Women’s PGA Championship (another major) coming up soon as well. Hopefully I can take that form into those events. I haven’t really played a whole lot this year and when I have, I haven’t really played many events in a row, so I’m trying to use this momentum.

“I have a week off this coming week, I’m going to go back to Fort Worth (Texas) and practice, but I’m looking forward to the next stretch of events.

As for the brutal test of the rolling hills and boldly contoured green at Erin Hills, which debuted as a major championship host at the men’s US Open in 2017 won by Brooks Koepka, Green said: “It played like a US Open… I’ve really enjoyed my time. There’s been a really good crowd out here.”

Green and Lee were the only Australians to have made the cut, after Erin Hills claimed Gabriela Ruffels, Grace Kim, Jennifer Elliott and Stephanie Kyriacou as exits before the weekend.
