As Ben Hogan famously said, “The secret is in the dirt.” Jordan Spieth took that quote as literally as possible on Sunday afternoon at the Torrey Pines range.

In a video clip that we assume is from his warm-up session preceding his final round of the 2021 US Open, Spieth begins by hitting a wedge and really exaggerating a descending blow into the ball. So much so that his wedge almost got stuck in the ground. Right afterwards, he began mimicking that move, over and over and over again, without a ball. As this tweet perfectly put it, look away, golf course superintendents:

Jeeeez Jordy, take it easy! Pray for that turf, pray for the greenskeeper. Pray for everyone.

Whatever Jordan was digging/excavating/jackhammering for, he didn’t quite find it on Sunday, which perhaps explains why he was doing this. Still, he managed to piece together a one-over 72 while hitting only eight off 14 fairways and 10 of 18 greens. Short game was obviously solid, so there’s that.
