TIGER Woods’ latest “update” and his reaction to the rules controversy involving Dustin Johnson at the U.S. Open were the main takeaways from his Wednesday morning press conference ahead of the Quicken Loans National. But his most insightful answer came from the day’s first question.

Woods was reminded that the 20th anniversary of his pro debut at the 1996 Greater Milwaukee Open is quickly approaching (a scary thought) and he was asked what he remembered about that week. Woods responded by saying, “that was probably the second-most nervous tee shot” he’s ever hit. Here’s the rest of his answer, which includes him talking about the time he got most nervous on the first tee:

It’s interesting to note that both times, Woods felt fine until he started to pull the club back and “it felt like it weighed eight tons.” Of course, he hasn’t always seemed impervious to first-tee jitters since. Still, despite all the pressure and the hype surrounding the young phenom in Milwaukee, he managed to “hit it right down the fairway, and off I went.”

He sure did.
