Journeyman Paul Waring of England birdied the final two holes to fend off late challenges from Tyrrell Hatton and Rory McIlroy and win the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at Yas Links in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
He’s exhausted, battling his swing and barely hanging on, yet David Micheluzzi can celebrate a major milestone simply by teeing it up in this week’s Abu Dhabi Championship in Abu Dhabi.
Stenson, along with 11 other players who have teed-up at least once on the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour (a list that includes Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Patrick Reed, Bernd Wiesberger and Adrian Otaegui), appear on the entry list for the upcoming Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
The exchange occurred on the fifth hole where Poulter and longtime caddie Terry Mundy began to discuss his upcoming approach shot, specifically about where the pin was located.
Gone are the Januarys when McIlroy would scribble those ambitions on his airline boarding pass en route to the Middle East. Instead, he now uses a journal.
