The only drama Nelly Korda faced on the final day at the Chevron Championship was whether she was going to jump or wade into the small, temporary pool next to the 18th hole at Memorial Park Golf Course.
This is the first time since Yani Tseng in 2011 that someone has won seven times in a year, and Korda is the first American to accomplish the feat since Hall of Famer Beth Daniel did so in 1990.
Korda’s two-stroke victory over Maja Stark makes her one of three in LPGA history to win five straight starts, joining Hall of Famers Nancy Lopez (1978) and Annika Sorenstam (2004-2005).
All’s well that ends well for Nelly Korda. But repeating as champion at the Taiwan Swinging Skirts LPGA proved more difficult than she had hoped for, and more surreal given how things played out.
