Augusta National Golf Club is postponing the 2020 Masters amid concerns for the coronavirus pandemic, according to a statement released by tournament chairman and club president Fred Ridley overnight.
While Augusta National has continued to monitor the situation throughout the health crisis, sources said the latest developments “have put all options on the table” in regards to the Masters.
When Augusta National Golf Club opens again on October 16, it will do so under new leadership. Billy Payne, chairman of the club and the Masters Tournament since May 2006, has announced he will retire from the role.
Dustin Johnson said on Thursday afternoon at Augusta National that he was “going to give it a try”, despite suffering a freak injury to his lower back during a fall at his rental home a day earlier. He never teed off.
