While you may not know it from their divergent career paths, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry have been playing golf together a longggg time. We got a glimpse of their bond at the most recent Ryder Cup in Italy, where Lowry served as McIlroy’s “hold-me-back” guy in a dust-up with caddie Joey LaCava, but thanks to the pair’s 2024 Zurich Classic partnership, we now have the photographic evidence to back it up.

The Giza Pyramids look more modern than that photo. Although Lowry and McIlroy have both grown into their sport coats over the years (just not green ones), hopefully some of the youthful swagger that helped them climb the Irish youth ranks will continue to aid them at TPC Louisiana next month. That’s where the pair will tee it up as part of the PGA Tour’s proto-LIV Golf event, which was experimenting with team golf and walk-up music before the Fireballs were even a twinkle in Yasir Al-Rumayyan’s eye.

Oh, and speaking of walk-up music, if Lowry and McIlroy don’t go with “The Boys are Back in Town”, the most famous song ever written by the greatest rock band Ireland ever produced, then what are we even doing here?
