On Wednesday, the heated debate on Golf Twitter was over what constitutes a “good handicap.” It was fun for a brief while, but everyone quickly moved on to the next pressing matter – Scottie Scheffler’s attire at a “sacred” Scottish golf course.

Such is life in the 24-hour hot-take cycle. All it took was a short clip of the World No. 1 hitting a chip shot over the famous rock wall at North Berwick’s iconic 13th hole to send everyone into a frenzy. The reason? Scheffler had on a T-shirt and gym shorts, along with calf socks. The kids call it “athleisure” now, I think. Unless they’ve already moved on to a new term.

Top 100 Rick, who has a knack for framing topics for maximum engagement, schemed up quite the tweet to get the ball rolling:

Clearly, Rick is being semi-tongue-in-cheek here. But, is there a tiny element of truth to it? Possibly, which would explain why it has over a million views. It clearly struck a nerve for some.

Probably overstating it. I’ve always stood firm on this – if the course/club you’re at has no rules against it, then wear the t-shirt and shorts. If the club/course has very strict dress code rules, you should follow them or expect to be reprimanded. Not much deeper than that, folks.
