The 35-year-old had already won the Open Championship, the US Open and two PGA Championship titles, meaning his Masters victory completed the career grand slam.

McIlroy became the sixth golfer in history to achieve the feat and first since Tiger Woods completed the slam with his 2000 Open win at St Andrews.
