Rory McIlroy had quite an adventure on the ninth hole at Castle Pines Golf Club in the final round of the BMW Championship, one that included a snapped driver and a barefoot shot.
His tee shot was wild to the right, leaving his ball on a grass slope, a few centimetres from rocks and water, requiring him to remove his shoes and socks to hit his second shot His right foot was in the water, his left foot on a rock, and he somehow hit a decent shot from 134 metres onto the green, 27 feet from the hole. Two putts later, he had an improbable par.

It has been a tough week for McIlroy, who on Saturday threw his driver into the water. After the wild tee shot on the ninth on Sunday, he was leaning on his driver to retrieve his tee and snapped the shaft.

He was never in contention, though he has safely qualified to advance to this week’s Tour Championship in Atlanta.
