The stage is set for an epic Sunday at Royal Melbourne after Ernie Els and Tiger Woods confirmed the singles showdowns that will ultimately decide the 2019 Presidents Cup.

The Internationals head into the final day with a 10-8 lead in their bid to win the cup for the first time since 1998.

Leading the charge early will be adopted Aussie Abraham Ancer, who finally gets his dream date with US skipper Woods after another phenomenal trip Down Under.

Off last and anchoring the Internationals’ bid for glory will be Australia’s Marc Leishman, who takes on American hot shot Rickie Fowler.

As Golf Digest’s John Huggan writes, Ancer’s 87.5 percent success rate is perhaps not the surprise a cursory first glance might suggest. Yes, the World No.39 is ranked well below all 12 members of the United States team. But Ancer and Australia have a history. Crowned Australian Open champion a year ago, the University of Oklahoma general studies grad has successfully recreated the potent mix of positive attitude and assured stroke-making that carried him to a five-stroke victory at The Lakes in Sydney.

“Winning down here last year gave me a lot of confidence and general good vibes,” Ancer said. “I had a really good two weeks in Sydney and Melbourne [where he represented Mexico in the World Cup] last year. Been doing the same this year. I just feel comfortable around here. The people are great. And the course is unbelievable. It’s just a really fun type of golf.”

He now has the perfect opportunity to add to that fun and become an International hero.

All the action tees off at 10:02am.
