After a streak of playing in 12 consecutive Ryder Cups, Phil Mickelson has now missed the last two. In 2021, it was based off his play, and you could make the same argument in 2023 given his only real highlight of the year was a T-2 at the Masters. However, once he became a LIV villain, his Ryder Cup dreams, as both a player and captain, were all but over.

Ryder Cup 2023: Fans outraged over lack of coverage, commercials

With that in mind, you’d think Mickelson would distance himself from the event entirely, and maybe even ignore that it was happening. Quite the contrary, actually. Lefty knew that Golf Twitter would be buzzing early this morning, and he would never let an opportunity to get some eyeballs on him go to waste. He is an elite salesman, after all.

That’s why it came as no surprise that Mickelson parachuted into Ryder Cup Friday at around 4 a.m. ET with an extremely important message … about National Coffee Day. And yes, he even sent some well wishes to Team USA, which they desperately need right now:

Happy National Coffee Day to you, too, Phil. I, myself, am on my fourth cup and I feel like could rule the world. Don’t be afraid to throw another pot on in celebration, folks.

Now, if we could just get Phil to literally parachute into Rome and shake things up in the team room, perhaps the U.S. squad might actually have a chance.
