Lost amid Bernhard Langer’s latest – and, arguably, most impressive – PGA Tour Champions win was the fact that Steven Alker captured the tour’s season-long Charles Schwab Cup for a second time. Hence, the photo above in which Alker is holding up two fingers and not a peace sign. Although, we’re sure the amiable New Zealander wants peace on Earth as well.

Anyway, Alker has been one of pro golf’s best stories in the past few years while emerging as a surprisingly dominant force on the senior tour. And after his latest accomplishment, the 53-year-old revealed that he has earned a hilarious – and appropriate – new nickname from his colleagues. It just has nothing to do with his play on the course.

It also happens to be one that he’s not sure he wants “to stick”. Here’s what he told Brian Katrek and John Maginnes on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio:

“We bought a property in Scotland because my boy is going to school in Scotland,” Alker explains. “We actually bought a converted church, so we live in a church, and now my nickname – Rod Pampling gave it to me – is ‘Reverend’. I’m ‘Reverend Alker’.”

Hey, if you buy a converted church, you’re kinda opening yourself up to that one. As far as coming up with nicknames goes, that’s a layup.

“Darren Clarke sees me every day, literally every day on the range, and says, ‘Reverend, how ya going?'” Alker continued. “I don’t know if I want it to stick.”

Sorry, Steven, but it sounds like that one’s going to stick for a while.
