Before golf’s official return to the Olympics this summer after a 112-year break, the question of how long it would remain a part of the Summer Games had already been raised. Due to Zika virus concerns and a crowded schedule, many of the sport’s biggest stars stayed home, but two worthy gold medallists from Rio helped the cause.

And now, according to a report from The Guardian, it appears like the game’s tenure as an Olympic sport is about to be extended. A source at the International Olympic Committee told the publication it would be “very surprising” if golf isn’t on the list of sports for the 2024 Games. That decision is expected to be announced some time in early 2017.

When golf was added back to the Olympics, the sport was only guaranteed a spot in 2016 and 2020. This is obviously encouraging news that it will last past this test run, especially since the International Golf Federation is expecting to draw a better field than it had in Rio for the 2020 event at Kasumigaseki Country Club in Japan.

A site for the 2024 Games has yet to be determined. The three finalists for hosting are Los Angeles, Paris, and Budapest.
