The holiday season should bring good vibes and relaxation, but things are about to get really expensive for Mission Trails Golf Club. In yet another example of people being the worst, a group of vandals attacked the beloved San Diego course destroying the eighth, 10th and 18th greens. Things got so bad that the holes have temporarily closed, according to Reddit.

“What the hell is wrong with people? Happened last night,” wrote r/golf user CantonDog. “The rest of the greens were great and dialled in. Thankfully no other holes were damaged. “And they’ve been working on it a lot. Greens are really nice. Just need the tee boxes to be dialled in.”
The grass was uprooted on the sabotaged holes. Tyre tracks scarred the impacted greens with the 18th getting the brunt of the damage. Essentially Sports estimates this could cost somewhere between $US15,000 and $US50,000 per green, with some online assessments online jumping into mid-six figures.
In a world where no one agrees on anything, the internet comments were eerily similar, with some golfers even calling for jail time.
Others mentioned the course was in prime condition after teeing off there recently. “Played it Tuesday and it was in the best shape I’ve seen in a while. What a shame,” one commenter mentioned. Another replied, “their greens are as pure as can be, just played there last Sunday.”
Mission Trail’s claim to fame is that it’s the site of Tiger Woods’ fifth Junior World title and one of his earliest wins in the 13-14 age division at the 23rd Optimist Junior World Championship. At just 14 years old, Woods was already driving the ball 240 metres and tied the tournament record with scores of 68-69-67 for a seven-under 63.
Unfortunately, Mission Trails isn’t the only recently damaged American golf course, as Dennis Highlands Golf Course on Cape Cod suffered “major vandalism” at the end of November.
Like Mission Trails, Dennis Highlands was defaced with tyre marks on its greens, forcing some of its holes to close temporarily for repairs.
“I work for an affordable 9 hole muni, and we take crazy pride in our greens, even with all the a–holes dragging their heels while walking and digging their putter in the green after a missed putt,” wrote one enraged Redditor. “S–t, I can’t tell you how many days I’ve lugged out the watering hose by hand, with a bad shoulder, hip, knee, and hand watered every green with a full course, to keep them in good shape or not lose them.
“I get entirely frustrated with the dumbasses that think it’s okay to empty out their sunflower seed shells on the green. I can’t imagine how someone doing donuts with their 125cc 2-stroke feels. That’s some other s–t. That’s felony s–t. People don’t realise how expensive it is to keep the greens half-decent.”
