Not golfer on planet earth was hotter than Michael Kim on Friday. Kim opened his second round at the 3M Open in a tie for 43rd and finished it three clear at the top of the leaderboard. His did so on the back of a flaming-hot flatstick, draining putt after putt—at one point, he made nine straight one-putts—en route to a mythical 59.

The 2018 John Deere Classic champ began his round with back-to-back pars before spontaneously combusting. Kim went on to birdie 12 of his last 16 holes, including a stretch of five straight birdies on the front nine. Facing a 24-foot birdie putt on No. 18, Kim poured it in with authority, punctuating the once-in-a-lifetime round with a mighty fist pump.

By then, a crowd had gathered to watch Kim make history. His 59 was just the 15th such score in PGA Tour history, and set a new course record at TPC Twin Cities, surpassing the original mark of 60 set by several players, including Adam Svensson and Kurt Kityama in 2025. Kim, who maintains a large following on X, posted a quick celebration following his round, promising one of his trademark breakdowns.

After Friday’s record-setting round, Kim leads the 3M Open at 14 under par, three clear of Ben Kohles, who spent much of Friday morning with the lead before Kim caught and eventually passed him.
