Earlier in the week, an incredible story came out involving Ryan Fox, Cameron Young, the claret jug and an airplane. Hearing Fox’s side of everything makes it even better.
For those who missed it, the CHAMPION GOLFER OF THE YEAR had the claret jug on a flight from Manchester to London and was talking to people about his win with fellow passengers. It just so happened that one of those passengers was Young, the guy whose heart he’d ripped out hours earlier. And Young happened to be sitting directly in front of him. Crazy.
Anyway, Fox hopped on the Smylie Show with Smylie Kaufman and talked about the whole situation. Being the all-world nice guy that he is, he talked about feeling bad about carrying around the claret jug in front of Cam, but he also talked about how he “meekly” talked his way into being able to carry on golf’s oldest trophy.
“I meekly got up to the check-in agent with these two boxes and go, ‘So, yeah, I’ve got some special cargo here, is there any chance I can just take these on the plane?'” says Fox, who had both the actual claret jug and a replica with him. “She goes, ‘What’s in it?’ You know, I’m like, ‘The claret jug, it’s the oldest trophy in golf.’ [She says] ‘Did you win it?’ I’m like, ‘Umm, yeah. Can I just take it through?’ She’s like, ‘Yep, no problem.'”

“You don’t want to be that guy that randomly loses the claret jug,” Fox says.
Yeah, Ryan, good call on not checking that.
