The Masters just ended, and we’re more than five months away from the next NFL season. Yet there’s always some new way to ridicule the New York Jets and the team’s unfortunate die-hards. Because of course it did, Rory McIlroy’s second green jacket has illuminated just how dire things are at MetLife Stadium.

Yes, that’s the stat: “Rory McIlroy has won two Masters since the Jets have had their last interception.” Please read that one more time. “Rory McIlroy has won two Masters since the Jets have had their last interception.”
How is that even possible? A professional football team hasn’t recorded an interception since January 2025. In that time, Rory McIlroy collected a green jacket, waited a full year and then collected a second green jacket. It would be unfathomable if it were any other team that wasn’t the New York Jetropolitans.
The squad didn’t have a pick at all last season. The last one came on January 5, 2025, in a 32–20 win over the Miami Dolphins. Do two interceptions off Tyler Huntley even really count, if we’re being honest? At the time, Aaron Rodgers was still wearing green. He wasn’t even married yet.
Anyway, in summation, congrats to Rory. Sorry to Jets fans. Thanks to the eagle-eyed researcher who found a new way to embarrass the most embarrassing team in sports.
