AUGUSTA, Ga. — Thanks to his clutch play at the Ryder Cup last September and at the Players Championship last month, Cameron Young has become a fast fan favorite among American golf fans. This week at Augusta National, he’s among the favorites to win, and the patrons are taking notice.

Young, who is a fairly private person, has even detected a difference in how he’s been treated. And he’s welcomed it.

“I definitely feel that there’s some more fan support out there,” Young said on Tuesday. “But there’s not really any discomfort that’s come with it. If anything, it’s where I feel like I want to be within the game of golf and where I feel like I can be.”

It’s not just the golf that the fans love from the 28-year-old, it’s his faith. On Sunday morning of the Players Championship, Young was spotted attending church with his wife Kelsey and their three children, all of whom are under the age of five. The went to the 9 a.m. mass as as family at Our Lady Star of the Sea, which is located directly across the street from TPC Sawgrass. Young says they make sure to find the nearest church every week on the PGA Tour.

“Our faith is very important to us,” he said. “It’s something that I feel like brings us together. It’s very important, I think, for all of us to kind of have that part of our lives be a central portion of what we do, individually and as a family.”

It’s that part of his life that, Young says, fans have taken a liking to. To a pleasantly surprising degree.

“I get a lot of really, really nice comments,” he said. “People saying, hey, thanks for setting a great example for my children. Honestly it’s great to hear because I don’t feel like that’s the case all the time, and that’s one area where I’m really happy to be able to bring attention to that part of our life.

“I just think it’s a great opportunity to show other people that’s what we do.”

There are a number of Roman Catholic churches within a five-mile radius of Augusta National, so Young and the family will have no issues continuing the weekly tradition this Sunday. Ideally, if Young continues to play how he’s been playing in 2026, he’ll have an afternoon tee time for the final round, which will free up the morning.
