As Luke List waited for Ben Griffin to finish the 72nd hole of the Sanderson Farms Championship, List gave a brief interview. Asked what he was thinking about, he replied, “Eighteen is kind of playing tough and tricky, so if Ben hits a good drive, it makes it a little easier, but if you hit it in the rough there, it’s tough to make 4. We’ll wait and see.”

Someone might want to ask this guy what the next Powerball numbers are going to be.

Griffin, holding a one-shot lead, barely found the left rough, pulled his approach and couldn’t get up and down, leading to a five-way playoff that seemed destined to run into the next day before List dropped a 43-foot birdie putt then watched as no one could match it, ending a bizarre couple of hours.

“It’s been a crazy tournament,” List said.

Thankfully for List, he was crazy-good for the first 54 holes and then good enough today in what he dubbed “one of my best performances of the year”. He finished in the top-seven in strokes gained/around the green and strokes gained/putting and also ranked seventh in greens in regulation.

List’s irons are PXG’s 0311 ST, a player’s blade aimed at elite golfers while his wedges are Titleist’s Vokey model, including a Wedgeworks 60T that he used for a sporty up-and-down for birdie from the bunker at the short par-4 15th hole. On the greens, List used a centre-shafted Scotty Cameron by Titleist Fastback Plus prototype putter.

“Days like this test your skills and test your perseverance,” List said after the win. Fair enough, but his prognosticating skills passed as well.
