If he isn’t one already, Ludvig Aberg promises to become a household name for the PGA Tour in 2024. In the meantime, his new caddie is certainly someone plenty of golf fans recognise already.

Pro golf’s wild offseason continues as the 24-year-old Swede is switching caddies from Jack Clarke to Joe Skovron, a move first reported by Golf Channel. And if that name sounds familiar, that’s because Skovron was on Rickie Fowler’s bag for 13 years.

Fowler and Skovron ended their partnership in August 2022, but the looper quickly latched on to another young star in 21-year-old Tom Kim. Skovron was on the bag for both of Kim’s victories at the Shriners Children’s Open, including most recently in October.

Meanwhile, Clarke, a former professional golfer and the fiancé of LPGA star Madelene Sagstrom – with whom Aberg finished third yesterday at the inaugural Grant Thornton Invitational – had caddied for Aberg since he turned pro in June. But what an amazing few months it was for the duo.

The Swede product has already won on both the PGA Tour (RSM Classic) and DP World Tour (Omega European Masters), vaulting to 32nd in the Official World Golf Ranking after ending 2022 ranked outside the top 3,000. He also became the first golfer to play in a Ryder Cup before playing in a major championship, helping lead Europe to victory in Rome.

It seems that lack of major-championship experience would be a big reason to hire Skovron, a veteran of more than 50 majors. Aberg will make his major championship debut at the Masters in April.
